A stroke is a serious medical emergency that occurs when the blood supply to the brain is disrupted. It can be caused by a blood clot blocking the blood flow to the brain (ischemic stroke) or by bleeding in the brain (hemorrhagic stroke).

The following are common signs and symptoms of a stroke:

  1. Sudden weakness or numbness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body

  2. Sudden difficulty speaking or understanding others

  3. Sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes

  4. Sudden difficulty walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination

  5. Sudden severe headache with no known cause.

If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to call emergency services or seek medical attention immediately. Time is of the essence when it comes to treating a stroke, as the longer the brain is deprived of oxygen and nutrients, the more damage can be done.
